A funny, poignant, sexy read which makes you think about love, life and family.

I got this book on recommendation from a friend thinking it would be a fun little voyeuristic romp of a read. Boy did I get more than I bargained for. Don't get me wrong, it is a fun titillating read with many laugh-out-loud moments. It also is the most thought-provoking book I've read in a very long time.

This book tells it all on so many different levels. It is a multiple-love story. Gracie writes poignantly about her love for her husband, Hank, her children and the family they're all part of. She writes about falling in love with Oz, and trying to put that love away to maintain her family. Ultimately, she realizes that she needs to do something different but has no idea what that would look like. She starts to unpack what family, marriage, love and sex mean to her. Following her heart, (sometimes down some blind alleys), she is ultimately able to create a non-traditional vision of family which works for all of them.

Gracie takes the reader along on the ride,confessing her innermost thoughts, feelings, desires and frustrations. She pulls no punches, least of all on herself. Her writing mixes moxie, sheer determination and terrible uncertainty, erotic energy and vulnerability. It's an incredibly fun read, one which I couldn't put down.

I finished it a few days ago, but it's still in my head. It's helping me unpack questions about my own life. What parts of it would I like to change, and how would I have the guts to do it.

Gracie X, You're my She-Ro

My favorite book this year! (which says a lot coming from a self proclaimed book worm) I couldn't put this courageous, sexy memoir down.
A must read for anyone who's ever had the haunting feeling that our current paradigm of matrimonial bliss is somehow amiss. I was reminded of an Alice Walker quote that states "No one is your friend who demands your silence or denies your right to grow." For how many of us has a relationship that started as something that felt limitless turned into what feels more akin to a cage? Lots of sex positive, pro-woman food for thought, whether you're in a long term relationship that could use a breath of new life, or you're currently exploring how you might want define your new relationship by your own design. For those of us willing to take what can feel like an unprecedented stance on romance, Love and sexuality, Gracie X tells us we're not alone. Her writing often feels like sharing the juicy confessions of wine time with your girls. I found myself applauding her on her journey, laughing and crying along with her. I commend her brave, saavy, bare all approach of embracing her own sexuality. I'm impressed by her ability to be simultaneously so playful and so dedicated to her own healing, both for the sake of her own happiness but also for her children and those who she defines as family.
Gracie X keeps it real, raising a lot of powerful, provocative questions without ever pretending to have all the answers. This book will definitely be the catalyst for stimulating conversation around the evolvement of 21st century Love in all of its manifestations.

A different kind of read that I needed.

I've put off writing this review, simply because I'm not sure how to write it. The book stirred all kinds of feelings in me, as a divorced woman in her 40s who has had marriages fail, and multiple relationships fail.

Wide Open tells the story of Gracie, who has been married many years to Hank. From my interpretation of the book, at the time they decided to open their marriage they had been married for 25 years. They had children later in life, so their son and daughter are five and ten when the decision is made.

The book chronicles their odyssey in finding discussing this decision, coming to the decision, the hard ships faced along the way. The ones that Gracie faces while trying to "date" after the decision is made? She faces what many single women in their 40s do. More difficult for us than it is for men - while Hank seems to find someone almost instantly, Gracie has issues. Further, she has feelings for a man named Oz who she taught pilates too and she really yearns to explore a relationship with him.

I found myself taking breaks from the book; yet, I did not want to stop reading. I wanted to know how this decision affected everyone involved (which I do not want to spoil by going into here). Many times, things the author said touched me and I simply had to stop reading to deal a bit with the emotions if stirred.

This book will not be for everyone. Those who do not believe in sex or any kind of intimate relationship outside of their marriage will probably not like it at all. What it did for me is bring up many good points about loving your spouse, even when the "spark" seems to die. How a person, no matter their age, wants to feel desirable and wanted by their partner; and that isn't in just a sexual manner either. It also reiterates my belief that you simply should not judge anyone else's lifestyle. What makes you happy and works for you may not work for others. To judge others and how they achieve their happiness is wrong.

I guess, for me, I was very moved by Gracie's feelings of feeling inadequate, of low self-esteem, and the frustration she felt in dealing with those emotions.

Again, not for everyone. But it was a much needed break for me as far as romance stories and the like.

Will Daryl Really Get what he wants

The characters depth of development start to evolve as daryl runs into his old love of his life after several years and realizes the young girl with merry was his daughter.Daryl's obsessive nature starts to evolve as he realizes he has missed his daughters first two years, and sets upon a quest to take care of them both. One problem daryls wealthy wife is the jealous type and she is about to give birth also -- a slight cliff hanger leaves you wanting more. So I am going to read book 3 right now.

This book may be short but it delivers on the story of Darryl and his former lover. I found myself flipping the pages faster than usual because it's not only a love story it's also a romantic tragedy. Read it and find out what I mean.

"From Pain to Peace" is a must read for anyone who has gone through a divorce, is contemplating a divorce or is a child of divorce. I really wish I had read this book when I was going through my divorce, but I am very glad to have found it now, 15 years later.

About the Author
John Rae was a Scottish doctor and explorer born on September 30, 1813, in Orkney. As a child, he enjoyed sailing, climbing, hunting, and fishing--skills that would serve him well in his future exploits. In 1833, shortly after graduating from medical school, Rae was appointed surgeon of the "Prince of Wales", a Hudson's Bay Company ship bound for Moose Factory, Ontario, where he would remain for the next ten years. He had great respect for the peoples native to northern Canada and adopted many of their survival skills. He learned to hunt caribou, store meat, construct shelter, and walk using snowshoes. He was particularly known for this last skill, once walking 1,200 miles in snowshoes through winter forest in order to learn how to survey.Rae embarked on his first expedition in 1846. Over the next decade, he explored much of northern Canada's coastline and, in fact, discovered the final link in the Northwest Passage. However, his achievements have gone largely unrecognized due to the discovery he made in 1854. While exploring the Boothia Peninsula, Rae obtained the first information about the fate of the Franklin expedition, which had been missing since 1845. He met a group of Inuit who claimed to have seen the missing men four years earlier. Through their reports, Rae concluded that the last survivors of the Franklin expedition had resorted to cannibalism, before perishing in 1850. Upon his return to England, he was heavily criticized by Franklin's wife and the author Charles Dickens and shunned by the British establishment.John Rae retired from the Hudson's Bay Company in 1856 but retained his love of exploration. In 1860, he was hired to explore Iceland and Greenland in an effort to establish a telegraph line to America. And in 1884, at the age of seventy-one, he was hired by the HBC to survey another telegraph route, in the west of Canada, from Red River to Victoria.John Rae died in London on July 22, 1893. He was the only major explorer of his time not to receive a knighthood.

During the 30 years during which Henry Schoolcraft lived among the Indians of the Great Lakes area, he undertook a personal mission to learn their folklore and then transcribe into English. This book offers ten Native American fairy tales on fine quality paper with excellent color illustrations by John Rae. Whether they are tales of adventure, love, or quests for glory and improvement of the tribe, they reveal basic human traits: we see our 21st century selves mirrored in recognizable behavior, from character flaws to noble sacrifice. Some tales offer explanations for natural phenomena.

These tales are recounted to rapt young listeners--hungry to learn the ways and values of their people--by old venerable Iagoo, whose tribal function is to preserve their history by means of oral tradition.

A Beautiful Story in a Beautiful Place.

Desire is another beautiful story by Cait Jarrod. I am not sure how each book keeps getting better, Cait does it again with this heartfelt story between Cadence and Bradley. I loved watching Cadence and Bradley's story unfold, so touching to see the love for each other. They both have overcome so much drama in their lives and now can they make their love last in this beautiful place. I highly recommend this book to any romance reader, actually the whole series is a must. Cait Jarrod is one of my go to authors when looking for a great book.

Let the mind follow the heart

Cait Jarrod really brought Montana Dreams books together with Desire. I absolutely LOVED Bradley and Cadence's story. All three of the books have been amazing but I must admit I think I enjoyed Desire the most! Bradley and Cadence have loved each other for a long time but it has taken them awhile to realize it and finally let their minds follow their heart. Bradley and Cadence help each other over come their own issues to eventually come together as a couple!!

A fascinating character development!

What fascinated me the most with book 3 was the amazing character development. Our heroine Cadence, especially, goes from carelessness and debauchery - or so it seems - to becoming a loving, selfless person. All thanks to the hero Bradley's patience and profound love for her. Well done, Cait Jarrod! This story is going to stick with me for some time, as do the two first books. I'm thankful I was given the opportunity to work on them all.

Caregiving Made Simpler

I needed this book years ago when I first became a caregiver. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or what I needed to do. I was frustrated, tired and overwhelmed. The authors and contributors of this book have done something brilliant here. I have read more than a few caregiving books and none that lay it out for you with clear, simple suggestions. Absolutely everything will not pertain to your specific caregiving situation, but there is a wealth of information that will pertain to just about any given situation. Everything from organization, self-care, to traveling with your caree. Even after being a caregiver myself for 6 years now, there still were a multitude of things referenced in this book that I had no idea about and that I am going to start implementing. If you are a caregiver then you'll want to read this. If you know a caregiver then you'll want to buy this for them. It will be the most helpful thing you can purchase for yourself or someone you love.

I was asked by one of the authors if I would review the book. I am a caregiver for my daughter and have been for six years. I did skip a few sections that didn't apply to our caregiving situation. Overall, I thought the book was excellent. I highlighted a lot of numbers because I wanted to incorporate the idea or I wanted to be able to find it later quickly. I absolutely love the homemade saline solution recipe and will make this. I think any caregiver whether they are brand new or a veteran could benefit from the tips. I would highly recommend this book.

Incredible resource!

This book is an indispensable resource for caregivers everywhere and is filled with so much helpful information and practical advice.

It is organized into different sections (General Caregiving, Medications, Bathing & Dressing, Mealtime, and many more), making it easy to navigate and for readers to learn something new about specific aspects of caregiving.

The second I picked up this book, I was able to take away a ton of great information. For example, there is a tip on compression socks. My mom and I had always struggled with getting compression socks on my dad's feet. When I came across tip #21 (replacing compression socks with ace adhesive bandages), my jaw dropped. I went out, found the adhesive bandage, and it really did the trick. Infinitely easier than compression socks! Who would have thought? This book is a trove of helpful tips like this one.

My dad currently is in the later stages of Frontotemporal Dementia, and throughout the course of this disease my family and I encountered situations that we could have never imagined. My regret is that I did not find this book sooner; My family and I would have been so much better equipped to care for my dad if I had. If you are a caregiver, or know someone who is, please buy this book. You will not regret it.

This is a must read for all parents. I particularly enjoyed the Author's insights on how to get your child to open up to your and share their experiences with you. The book also talks about the signs to look out for so you as a parent can identify the potential existence of bullying. You will also learn how to teach your child to deal with bullying.

Great book

I ordered this book in paperback for my granddaughters. I ordered it on Kindle and read it to them. They really liked it. They both had favorites. My older granddaughter is getting ready to lose her first tooth so naturally she loved the story about losing a tooth. My younger granddaughter liked the one about cooler weather because it reminded her of what we do together in the snow. I recommend this for all children. It even brought back some of my childhood memories. Thank you Kelly for sharing your stories with us.

I love this book and the author

I love this book and the author, I have known Kelly since Jr, High and she was always a great person, I am so proud of her and her accomplishments, This is her second book she has written the first was about her time as a Ft, Worth, TX Police Officer,
I am a teacher and this book has the best illustrations I have seen in a long time, I love that they are hand drawn and show the characters of each story and poem. I highly recommend this book for all ages,.

Great book for kids!!!

This is a great book to read to little ones or have them read to you! As you read each poem it makes you go back to your own childhood and say "Oh yeah I remember how that made me feel" and then share your own story! It's very well written and the kids enjoy hearing the stories. It's a great book to add to your children's library and a great gift to give to another child.
