She studied Art School, is a painter and believes that God sent her into this world to help people to believe in their dreams, to hope and to follow their dreams until the end.She loves Michael Jackson and she strongly believes that Michael's spirit inspired her to write this book. "I am one of the billions fans of Michael Jackson. I wrote this book as a tribute in memory of the King of Pop and I dedicate it to his children and fans. Amazing story!!!!

I bought this book for my 8 and 11 yrs old nieces. They absolutely loved it and they got a similar teddy bear just to keep them company like in the story. They believe now its their lucky bear. I love the story myself it seems real and magic in the same time. I highly recommend it to all the children, it does teach a good lesson how to be brave!

I was delighted to discover this book recently. I totally support it for a number of reasons. The inspiration provided by Michael Jackson is so appropriate and heartwarming! The symbolism in the book is very welcome and delightful. I think this book is very enlightening and will definitely help any one currently attending college or will be attending. What I like about it is the fact that its straight to the point, these are real life experience's that the author has illustrated. No need to sugar coat, he is telling facts. I recommend this book to all. After reading the book you will truly come away with key facts on what you should and shouldn't do. Hopefully this will help someone before it's too late.

This book was very insightful and relatable. I would and will recommend this book to everyone I know. What makes this book a 5/5 for me is the fact that it is based on the truth. The way Marc Terry narrates this story not only speaks to his talent as a writer but as a storyteller. If only he had more strategies to share with us.

Cracking Sequel!

I received this book from the author in return for an honest review. I don't do any other kind.

If you have read Impact, then you will have been waiting patiently - like me - for this very worthy follow up. I really enjoyed the first book and it is often hard for an author to keep the same standard of storytelling in a sequel. Nothing to worry about on that front, I can assure you. Matthew Eliot has returned with an action-packed continuation that you will speed through!

I don't want to tell you anything about the plot as it really would spoil your enjoyment. I actually shrieked a little out loud during this book (and laughed straight afterwards as you do when you've made a fool of yourself like a girl). I loved the way that the chapters get shorter the further you get into the book, mirroring the intensity of events happening within the pages.

Cracking story, full characterisations, and many spanners in the works! Can't wait for Book Three!

Good dystopic "hard" science fiction novel

This is a pretty good dystopic series (this is the first novel) and this first novel keeps you guessing as to what is going on. Essentially, this story is about a Slower-Than-Light interstellar vessel, full of colonists in hibernation, making its way to a nearby star system for the purpose of colonization. One colonist wakes up to find that most of the hibernating colonists are dead, and things are not as they should be. More would be telling, but this first novel in the series is quite engaging, and I enjoyed it enough to continue with the series.

A few nits. (Very minor spoilers but not really spoilers). The story explains that as the starship is launched, probes are still reconnoitering the target star system. This is idiotic. Earth would never send 12,000 humans to another star system without pretty thorough knowledge as to what would be there. It is not as though every star is guaranteed to have an earth-like planet.

Overall, a good first novel in the series.

Exciting science fiction novel with a surprisingly dark twist

When asked to make a list of the things I am most afraid of, waking up alone on a damaged ship in the darkness of space, surrounded by death is probably somewhere near the top. That's exactly the situation Daniel Luker is facing here. Within moments of waking up after a long stay inside of a sleep chamber, designed to allow humans to travel vast distances among the cosmos, Luker is thrust into a dangerous and haunting survival situation in one of the most unforgiving settings possible: space. Luker's background as a police officer gives him a slight edge but he's left with lots of questions, making this first part a mystery with a very surprising twist answer.
If you liked the Mass Effect franchise or the creepy vibe from the first half of Event Horizon, you'll like this book.

I Just Couldn't...

I really could not get into this book. The entire first half the guy wakes up alone and upon finding everyone else dead just moseys around the ship trying to find other people and the bridge so he can discover what's going on. I don't know what he does in the second half of the book because I just couldn't stand the tediousness anymore. I wanted to ram a nail through my skull!! If you're going to write a book with only one character then you should really work a bit harder to make him interesting or even slightly realistic. Maybe he should react to his surroundings...? Maybe he should cry or be angry or ANYTHING when he finds out he's probably alone on a ship with a killer that's 120 lightyears away from any other human being. Just a thought. Anyway, I gather from some other reviews that this is the authors first book so I should give credit where its due. The idea for this book, however poorly executed, was interesting. There was a lot of potential here. And maybe the second half of this book is incredible... I just couldn't muddle through the mundane mess of the first half to get to it.

So I can relate to my mother's life. However, some abuses are far greater than others as you shall read in my book.

About the Author
After a long-term relationship ended in 2001, Damien White embarked on a quest to better understand women and female psychology. After several years of research and observing the way women behave and speak, close female friends began discussing their relationship frustrations and desires with him. This book is the result of a married male friend suggesting he write something to help men understand their wives needs and wants, the way they think, what they notice, how they want to feel and what is important to them. Ironically, upon reading this book that same friend's wife suggested women will get as much out of this book as men.

When I first looked at the title, I thought it was about the benefits of understanding women, but in reality it was mostly about how to understand women

It was great that the author stated what readers should expect from this book, and who the target audience is for. As someone giving advice I would expect the author’s credibility to be stated in the beginning. Why should I learn from you? Where is the source of your knowledge? These things I would like to know. For instance it could have been from your own experience with life and how what you have gone about it, is advice worth sharing. Or the information is backed up with research, or both.

Other than the credibility, I feel that the author’s presence in the story is missing. The author is giving advice but, I believe it would be best to have an anecdote going on. I want to see how the author has applied this, and how it has worked for them. In any book I’ve read where the author is trying to impart some of their knowledge, they always accompany it with their own story. It makes them seem real, more easy to relate with and helps in really driving home the message. It also make their work more interesting to read, because of how well it was written, it was as if I was there to experience the scene.

I would refrain making bold statements such as, “Women crave attention from men,” because it’s a general statement that does not apply to everyone. Unless you are backing it up with well recorded facts, I would argue against stating it. I would try to refrain mentioning anything to do with Gender roles as well, seeing as it’s different nowadays. For example, chapter 8 implies that men don’t take care of their babies.

Overall, I would suggest that the book be written properly, the opening especially could have been done better. Use engaging language and personal stories to help the book move along. When it comes to speech, I would like to see something more realistic. For example the last chapter had weirdly phrased sentences that seemed very unnatural.

Crash-course in understanding women

There are many books that claim that they have secrets to human relationships, brain of a woman or saving your relationship by giving insight into woman's feelings. This is one of those books.
It is a very short book that tries to give some helpful pointers to men about how to understand women, how to behave around them and how to be a "man". That latter thing didn't sit with me well. The advice is mostly sound and well-meaning but some of it revolves around notion that a man must behave "manly" so that woman can be "womanly". That is a broad generalization of gender and I think it definitely does not apply to every woman or every man.
Luckily, that is a small part of the book and it is not the base of the subject matter. The rest of it is good advice and it is always great to be reminded from time to time on some of the nuances of romantic relationships.

It's always nice to read a book that will remind you or teach you, if you don't know already how to act towards a woman. I believe that both men and women might enjoy this book.

Men could learn something from it and women could find it interesting reading what writer think about how women think, what they want and how they act.

However, many things are a bit too repetitive which is the reason why I gave 4 and not 5 stars.

Short and amusing read.

Highly recommended.

An Excellent Guide for Guys

BEFORE YOU BUY: please make sure you are looking for a guide to being a new father! That is indeed exactly what this is. This book is *not* a continuation of Ben's other short comedies whose covers look exactly the same as this. Although there is a bit of comedy used in the delivery (pun intended) of this material, that isn't the focus.

For those who are looking for a male equivalent to the hundreds of books that are written by women and for women - this is it! It's definitely written by a man, for men. You will appreciate the honest and sometimes crude humor. Ben tells it straight, and he doles out some awesome advice, the kind that I wish I had someone tell me before my two kids were born. "Do not look at the vagina!" is about as blunt as he can get, and he's absolutely correct. Solid advice right there.

So all you new Dads or about-to-be Dads, go ahead and dive in. Buy this book and learn a few things your friends may not have the guts to tell you.

Brilliant and a must have for all fathers to be!

My first daughter is almost 4, and I just brought my second daughter home from the hospital a week ago. I wish this had been written 4 years ago it would have saved me a bit of stress, but it was great as a refresher for my new daughter. The topics covered are truly the things no one else tells you, and the edited "baby item list" is worth the cost of the story alone for the money it will save you. I can see this short story as a new must have for all expectant fathers. Keep them coming they just keep getting funnier.

Full of sound advice and plenty of laughs, this is sure to please anyone. Take it from me, I'm an uncle of 2 boys and I don't plan to have children, but I loved every single part of this read. I've even witnessed or heard many of these instances happening to my brother. So whether you are looking for a quick read, a good laugh, a new coffee-table book, great gift, or just some helpful insight, definitely pick this up! About the Author

Allen Kurzweil is a prize-winning novelist, children's writer, inventor, and journalist. His work has appeared in a wide range of publications, including the New Yorker, the New York Times, Smithsonian, and Vanity Fair. He is a graduate of Yale University and the recipient of Fulbright, Guggenheim, and National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships. He lives in Providence, Rhode Island.

I'd give this book zero stars if I could

On Amazon, I tend to follow the age old dictum of keeping negative opinions to myself, however in the instance of "Whipping Boy", I feel as though it's my moral duty as a reader of reasonably good conscience to warn readers not to waste their time, as I did, on "Whipping Boy." If the author suffered daily beatings and humiliation at the hands of a thug, then sought out confirmation later in life of the thug's personal failures, I could somewhat understand that. It's perhaps a waste of time and I would personally suggest to anyone to get some therapy or let go of their resentment, but we're all human and trying to get through the struggle of life as best we know ho, so I'll make allowances. However, IMO, the offense that the author experienced at the hands of his nemesis was so insignificant that I had to re-read the "Jesus Christ Superstar" scene again to make sure I hadn't missed anything. It's possible there have never been Holocaust survivors or MOSSAD agents who pursued their Nazi perpetrators with the zeal that the author went after his tormentor. Had the author lived my life as a preternaturally skinny kid in high testosterone Alabama, I don't think he would've survived with his sanity intact. He would've been so consumed by the offenses of not one, but a multitude of bullies over the course of years, not just one incident. The Jesus Christ Superstar incident warrants a years long search for the bully, then an entire book about the experience? And this insignificant transpired at an exclusive, elite boarding school in Switzerland, not the Warsaw Ghetto; consequently, that makes it even more difficult to sympathize with the author. For these reasons, the author revealed far more about their own shortcomings of character, rather than anything insightful and useful to the reader. Although Cesar Augustus turned out to be a con-man, at least he was interesting. OK, rant over. Obviously I need to take my own advice and let go of being conned out of time and money.

This justified a 40 year obsession?

Full disclosure: I attended Aiglon 68-71, leaving at the end of the school year just previous to the author's. I immensely enjoyed the portions of the book describing Aiglon at that time as the author did a great job explaining what it was like and covering the key characters involved such as Lady Forbes, JC, Group Captain Watts, etc. However, like some others here I was confused by the author failing to make a very good case that he was severely bullied. Menacing looks and a threat to throw him in to a tree in the event of a fire (so he could escape down the tree), forced to eat some chili sauce covered pea-sized pieces of bread, and almost but not quite being whipped in a reenactment of Jesus Christ Superstar. That's it, sum total. He also pins the blame for his beloved father's watch being thrown away on his bully even though another roommate admitted to doing that and he presents no evidence that his tormentor was behind that other than his speculation. One would think that much more would be required for someone to obsess over something like for forty years!

Forty Year Obsession! Why?

I bought this book for my brother in law, who graduated from Aiglon shortly before the author attended and thought he might find it interesting. Like another reviewer, I read the review in the Washington Post and thought the book sounded interesting. Was I wrong!

The book is about the author's "forty year search" to find out what happened to the boy, Cesar, who bullied him during his one school year (1971-1972) spent at Aiglon College, a British boarding school in Switzerland. The bullying apparently consisted of Cesar giving the author many menacing looks, beating him at foosball, forcing the author on one occasion to eat rolled up balls of bread sprinkled with hot sauce, and a beating (minor) with a belt to a song from Jesus Christ Superstar (the author was forced to play the role of Jesus while Cesar was Pilate). Hardly the "horrifying cruelty" as stated on the book jacket! He also suspected Cesar put another boy up to stealing a watch which had belonged to Kurzweil's deceased father and throwing it out a window, but apparently there was never any proof of that. Cesar mysteriously left the school during the winter of 1972 (exact date is not mentioned by the author), so Kurzweil really only had to put up with this guy for a few months, not the entire school year (which ended in July 1972). His actual school experiences are only covered in pages 14-38, a very small portion of the book. It doesn't do much to explain the author's obsession with Cesar for the next forty years.

I understand what it's like to be bullied; I went to elementary school in the 1960s and experienced many incidents of being tormented by other kids, just like about every other person. The difference is, I don't remember any of their names, nor do I spend any time thinking about them. I can't understand is why a short period of minor bullying affected the author so profoundly, especially since he seems to have enjoyed his year at Aiglon otherwise. He is completely obsessed with this inconsequential figure from his childhood.

The majority of the book chronicles, in excruciating detail, Kurzweil's search for details as to what actually happened to Cesar. It turns out Cesar had been involved in a large swindling scheme, where many foolish people lost a lot of money. He wasn't even the brains behind the enterprise, just the shill who brought suckers to the investors. When the author finally confronts Cesar, Cesar claims not to remember him and I believe him. Don't despair; there is a happy ending. After their final meeting, Cesar leaves Kurzweil a voicemail apologizing for any pain he caused. According to the author, "Cesar's simple, all-powerful avowal strikes like a thunderbolt, releasing me from a prison of vengeance that I've inhabited since the Nixon Administration."

Seriously?

Don't be misled by the many reviews of this book. It's not a tale of bullying and redemption, it's the story of a scam.
