As a martial artist and one who maintains a black belt and has trained personally with Omar, it is with that respect I say that Omar has an understanding of the journey he travels, much like allowing the person who ‘knows the way’ to drive the car. A black belt is forged in the journey, and maintaining a black belt is a journey in itself. One could easily describe the journey to black belt as a ‘journey to the starting line.’ Omar clearly depicts this in his maxims as he explains the lessons he’s learned. From the perspective of a martial artist, his explanations of our techniques and secrets could not be put into better phrasing and words. This is an excellent work for those who seek an understanding of the art as they begin their journey, or for those farther along the journey who wish to have a book to compliment what they already have learned. - M. About the Author
Marion Moon was born in 1976 in Hastings, England. After graduating in 1999 from the University of Westminster with a BA Hons degree in International Business Studies and Spanish, she embarked upon a long and varied career in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In 2008 she trained with the Open University to become a secondary school teacher of Spanish and Business Studies. During her teaching career she has worked in both state and private schools. Apart from writing Marion loves dancing and in 2007 she consolidated her passion for Latin rhythms and became a United Kingdom Alliance of Dance professional teacher of Mambo, Salsa and Merengue. Marina Blue and the Mermaids of Tamesis is her debut novel.

If you like Miyazaki style you should check this one out.

Marina Blue really is a fun read that takes the reader on adventure with Marina who has a big personality. She doesn't get what she wants as per going on a school trip with her classmates but then she meets the most unique person ever and the story just explodes with adventure, plenty of strange meetings and definitely plenty of suspense.
I was thinking Miyazaki when i read this book. The small details had so much character, I thought I was reading a Miyazaki classic.
Kids will love the spontaneous Ricky and his granddad Jack who has a lot of secrets about the mermaids. Marina is destined to save the mermaids. This book leaves the reader eager for more. A good read for sure.

My 11-year-old just finished this book and enjoyed it greatly. He was quickly drawn in by some of the funny images and descriptions—such as Marina’s dislike of her teacher’s World War II movies, and Runa’s obsession with alphabet spaghetti and Coco Pops. He was pleased see Marina go from being sad and friendless, to having three good friends and a sense of belonging. The magic—and mermaids—were a hoot.

Wow! Beautiful Story!!

Wow! What a great story!! The writing is so beautiful, rich and so dense with story and life, I felt like I had just lived the journey with the author. Familiar with Ms. Murray's poetry, I know she is an amazing writer. "One Child for Another" does not disappoint. Beautiful, touching, empowering, raw, full of life. A stunning tale. I had tears in my eyes by the end of it.

Stories like this -- a teen pregnancy

Stories like this -- a teen pregnancy, a group home for unwed mothers, adoption -- are ones I associate with a different time (before Roe v. Wade) or a different country (Ireland). Nancy Murray's contemporary experience so close to home upset that unexamined assumption and affected me deeply. In reading One Child For Another I was able to imagine the full scope of what happens to a young girl who becomes pregnant and carries a child to term when the people around her are more comfortable moralizing than providing the moral support a girl needs in such a situation. Nancy is strong, strong to have lived this experience, and stronger still to have written about it as well. This book is a gift.

A powerful, elegant story about one young woman's strength in the midst of great vulnerability. The writing is incredibly evocative, allowing the reader a stark, honest look something we talk about far too little in our society. I was amazed at the author's maturity and conviction as both a young woman living her story and as an older woman telling that story to all of us. While the story is somewhat breathless, to my surprise it never once felt like something was missing, especially concerning the narrator's relationship with her mother. The author expertly crafts a tragic, working relationship that seems to come full circle and triumphs because of the love between a mother and her child.

You have to go back, Callie. You're in real danger."Go back. Danger. For two days the words haunted her. Now she was on the road, the rhythmic sound of the tires on the highway putting her into a trance. Danger, danger, danger. The minute Aunt Mallory opened the letter with an Alabama postmark, everything changed.
She didn't want to go back. Of all the nerve. She'd been exiled in New Jersey for seven years, and now Mom and Grandma Jo decided she must return at once.
Callie hit the gas pedal. The angrier she got, the faster she drove. What should have been a fourteen-hour drive due south, she'd cut to a mere ten hours. She'd never traveled so far on her own, and convincing Aunt Mallory to let her do it wasn't easy. Especially since her old Volkswagen convertible, the 'Dixie doodlebug,' had over 150,000 miles. 
 Her heart skipped at the road sign, 'Welcome to Alabama. The State of Surprises.' No shit, Sherlock. Not even a mile away was another green and white sign proclaiming 'Entering Central Time Zone.' More like the twilight zone. 
Callie's tension eased a bit as she neared Piedmont, the small town bordering Georgia and surrounded by the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. In the gathering dusk, the rolling hills had a magical, ancient vibe. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad here. It's not like she had a choice anyway. Aunt Mallory made that clear.Mom and Grandma Jo had convinced her aunt she needed to come home where the coven could help protect her.
Callie rubbed her sore face. She'd clenched her jaw so long her temples throbbed. She consciously relaxed her facial muscles and rolled her shoulders. Much better.
The cell phone rang. Aunt Mallory again. 
Callie smiled. "What? Are you going to call me every hundred miles?
"Smart aleck. Where are you now?"
"I'm about to enter the huge metropolis of Piedmont. According to its sign, the name literally means; 'the foot of the mountain.' Population: 4,964."
"Great."Aunt Mallory let out a whoosh. "I've been so worried about you falling asleep at the wheel. I still think you should have spent the night somewhere along the way. You remember how to get to Mama's house?"
 "Pretty much. The GPS can help me navigate the back roads if I get lost."
"Call me if it doesn't recognize the dirt roads."
Callie rolled her eyes. "I know, I know."
Aunt Mallory sighed. "Glad you're almost there. Tell Mama and Ginnie I said 'hey'and call me when you arrive."
Callie couldn't speak around her tight throat. I'm really going to see them again. Silence haunted the air.
"It's going to be all right, Callie. They're excited to see you."
Her aunt knew her so well. She cleared her throat. "If you say so. Change of subject. I've been finding sprigs of rosemary and basil everywhere in the car.What did you do? Dig up all your herbs?"
Aunt Mallory laughed. "Guilty. We cast a protection spell in the crystal for a safe trip, and you always have your mom's amber talisman. But a little added herbal charm couldn't hurt."
"Better hope the cops don't pull me over; they'll think I'm a drug dealer."

Having read (and loved) ‘Changeling,’ I was thrilled to return to the world of southern witches and hidden worlds. Callie Bradford is a tough and resilient heroine who faces more than her fair share of trauma with courage, wit, and admirable determination. Between a strained reunion with the mother and grandmother she believes cast her aside, the revelation that she’s a burgeoning ‘super-witch,’ and the quest to determine the truth about the father she thought was dead, she’s on a collision course with more than earthly danger.

Hidden Immortal James MacLauren proves a worthy hero, trusting and aiding Callie in spite of the power she could use to bind him. Though a mortal witch can only bring him heartache, Callie’s spirit, loyalty, and courage draw him like no other woman. I was also very pleased to read a female-centered coming of age story featuring Callie and the host of amazing and resilient women around her. Her mother and both grandmothers serve as wonderful mentors, and I adore her relationship with gal pal Skye. There are so many buddy/mentor books out there for boys and young men. It was a TREAT to have a series for girls/young women.

I also adore that Callie isn't a shy, shrinking virgin. She owns and embraces her desires. So refreshing!

Fans of paranormal romance and YA/NA should definitely check out this series!

Great Second Book in the Series!

Charmed and Dangerous is the second book in the Appalachian Series. I really like this series because the story lines are awesome and they can be stand-alone books. Some of the characters overlap and enhance each other’s stories, but you can read the books out of order. The second book actually takes place before the first book.

Magic is definitely in the Appalachian area. Callie is a witch who grew up away from her mother and grandmother for most of her life. When she was young after a particularly scary Ouija Board incident, they sent her to live with her aunt in New Jersey (completely cool with me since it’s my state) to protect her. After seven years away, her mother and grandmother demand she return because she is supposed to come into great power on her birthday on the upcoming summer solstice. Callie is awesome. She is smart, funny, loyal and one heck of a gifted witch. She grows a lot as a character throughout the novel. She starts off a little bitter and broken inside about being abandoned by her family but then grows to understand the reasons behind it and appreciates the sacrifices her family made to keep her safe.

James is great book boyfriend material. He is hot, sexy, immortal, smart, brave and lonely. He has lived a long time and had not met the right woman. He is also getting tired of constantly fighting other immortals. Then he met Callie…but he was told to stay away from witches because the consequences of getting involved with one could be terrible for an immortal. James can’t seem to stay away from Callie even though he tries his best to do just that. He soon discovers that Callie in in danger and he does his best to protect her.

I love the chemistry between Callie and James. They make a great team and it is obvious that they can handle any situation as long as they do it together. The supporting character are awesome especially, Skye, who is the lead character in Book one. It was great to see her in this book.

This book had a nice pace to it and flowed well. The story line is a unique twist on witch and immortal lore and kept my interest throughout. There was only one thing I noticed that could be different. The characters are supposed to be in junior or community college, but the way it was written seemed more like they were still in high school. Maybe community college is different in other states.

I really liked this book and I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Witchy fun, y'all!

Yes, I read this book in one evening. Why? Because as with all of this author's books, this one immediately drew me in, and I had to finish it. It was a much-needed escape from a stressful day.

The theme of this series is young women discovering their inner power and love, but not having to sacrifice one for the other. This book had some interesting familial relationships, and nothing is black and white. I won't give any spoilers, just say the characters are complex, and it was fun to see some of the ones from Changeling, which I now need to go back and re-read. I can't wait for the rest of this series!

Not convinced yet? The hero is a hottie, and Herbert brought in some interesting history and crystal and herb lore. Seriously, y'all, curl up by a fire with this book. It's a perfect read for a winter night.

Nolan tried to introduce Baucher's system of training horses to the British cavalry. Even though he was considered an outstanding horseman, he came up against the old boys, and died to young... leading the charge of the Light Brigade.

Fortunately for us Americans, James Fillis was more successful with the American cavalry.

This book including a cluster of life changing stories told by OSHO. Each story is based on a moral or quote that really reflect to our life. All the morals are motivational and inspirational. It helps to enlighten our humanity as well as overall nature. All the stories described here express a true meaning of life and also make sense to the readers like me. I am really overwhelmed reading this enlightening story book. It seems to me, this book aims to develop my sense with something real, something great as well as something true about the natural incident. I recommended this book.

Be inspired!

I used to read a lot and learned from it. Being inspired in our daily life is also being positive.This book is a complete set of good stories and inspirational messages. It enlightens me to the truth that in every aspects of life, there are certain things we have no control of. Thus, we only have to be positive and look at the brighter side. Inspiration may bring motivation and change for the better. I really like how different stories was compiled in this book. I was truly inspired with every page that I read and I recommend this to everyone who wants to be inspired with good thoughts.

but the idea of what your mind can accept is amazing.

Very interesting stories. The story about the sheeps and the magicians was a little trippy. He (a magician) hypnotized sheep ready to be slaughter and convinced them they were not sheep; they were lion or tigers instead. As the sheep that were going to be slaughtered saw other sheep get slaughtered they were not fazed as only sheep get slaughtered they convinced themselves they were lion and tigers. Eventually they were all slaughtered. I feel sorry for the sheep, but the idea of what your mind can accept is amazing.
