Packed with relationship smarts for men and women

The Relationship Training Manual for Men does exactly what it sounds like it would--train men how to have (better) relationships. But it does a whole lot more than that. This terrific book is organized in such a way that you can use it like an owner's manual to relationships, and look up clear, useful advice on any number of relevant topics from dating and sex to how to fight fair and when to break up.
But beyond its practicality, which is enough to recommend it, the Relationship Training Manual for Men offers a coherent philosophy: that success in relationships starts with you. The book ultimately helps you to better understand yourself, and then in the context of relationships, to apply simple but powerful suggestions to improving your love life. And it works. You'll feel better about yourself at the same time you are learning to relate better with others.
Laced with humor, wisdom and sympathy, this book was written by a therapist who has not only worked with many couples and individuals, but who has been around the block a time or two himself. He knows his stuff. And he knows how to talk to men about it in a language they can understand. He has also created a "Women's Edition" of the book, with all the same material in the original Relationship Training Manual for Men, but with "Asides to Women" where he breaks off to talk directly to women about ways to better understand (and train ) their men.

Who wants to read a manual on relationships? I do.

I am a happily married man with a young daughter and didn't really think there was any reason to read this book. I have to admit I didn't start out with high hopes. After all, who really wants to read a manual about relationships? Well, I guess if you are reading this you are considering reading this one. So, I might as well tell you that not only is my wife happier that I read it, but so is my daughter. And, the best beneficiary has been me. All my relationships have gotten a good bump up.
The author has a way of relating to the reader that puts you at ease. He is direct, honest, real and able to put things in a perspective that makes difficult things much easier. My wife and I did not argue that much before, but since reading this the arguments have gone way down, the communication is up and best of all, I am getting more of what I want. And, that not includes more physical interaction, but also more of those daily little things that I used to say "Yes, dear" about. I am now finding ways to handle those every day things so that she is happier and I am happier. Not only that, but it takes little effort and by the time I finished the book I was pretty much effortlessly being a better partner.
One other thing is worth mentioning. I read the women's edition of this book, because that is the one my wife gave me. I started out skipping most of the things he said to women, because I didn't really think they fit. But as I read more of the book I got into reading what he was telling women about how to relate to men and it helped me understand my wife in a whole new way. I know he says most guys don't read these kinds of books (and in my case that is true) which is why the men's edition is shorter. But frankly I recommend that both men and women read the women's edition as it the information for women was helpful to me as well.

Just what I needed! I have not had the best success with my relationships. Of course, it is all their fault. But, just in case there was something I was doing or not doing I thought I would check this out. I know it takes two to tango yet I have never really been able to see how I contributed to the downfall of my relationships. I knew I grew tired of some women and there were others where there was just too much drama, but I never really could see what I could do to make them any better.
I had tried the "Yes, dear" approach and the ignore it and it will go away approach, but those only went so far. Reading this book gave me a lot of techniques and tips about ways to handle various situations.
I am probably not your typical self-help reader. Or maybe I am. I've bought a couple of books before but managed a chapter or two before I was either totally bored, felt spoken down to or just didn't think the author got it. This guy gets it. He seems like the kind of person you would be happy to have a beer with, watch a game or talk about your woman with.
Being a guy I went directly to the sex section. I don't know about you, but my sex life with a woman has rarely been as good as I would like it to be. I got a lot out of what he said and how he said it. I was dating a woman for awhile while I was reading it and we read some of it together and I had some of the best sex I have ever had. It was too bad I didn't like her more. But, now I know I can have a better sex life and I have a lot clearer idea of who I want to be with and how I want to be with them.
