And yet, Nancy ended up rising above it all and living a life of dignity and grace. When it was her turn to leave this world behind she exhibited her immense inner strength and awed her family with her self-awareness and courage. Although she was never able to realize her full potential, she provided a beautiful example of striving for excellence and inner peace.

Cathy L. Mason is the author of several books, three of which are self-published. Her preferred genres are nonfiction, memoirs, and biographies. She graduated summa cum laude from Utah State University with a bachelor's degree in Sociology, with emphases in Abnormal Psychology, Family and Human Development, and Pre-Law studies. She also holds a Masters Degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in Criminal Justice and Corrections, with emphases in Domestic Violence, Abnormal and Deviant Behavior, and Forensic Criminology. A Wonderful Memoir

Extremely well-written, Nancy's story is a sensitive portrayal of a complex women stricken with terminal illnesses. Beautifully told, it touches upon an abusive religious cult and her days as a child model/actor. Never a great mother, she raised two incredible daughters who provided the best possible care during her decline.

Unbelievably beautiful, raw and melodic

Wow! This book brought out a roller coaster of emotions within me. It is so well written and Nancy is just enchanting. I don't know what made me purchase the book to begin with - I think I was enticed by a mother/daughter story about the elderly/alzheimers. But I got A LOT more than I bargained for. You see Nancy, was a child star, a beautiful child who was naturally gifted at many things/arts. Without giving spoilers, she had to contend with domineering forces in her life, that slowly ate into her like a disease, making her a people pleaser and person who kept up appearances (so to speak) at whatever cost.
The honest narration and conversational style by the author (Nancy's daughter) is just poignant and so heartbreaking. You feel her pain as she sees the gradual decline of her mother mentally and physically - and how this effects her relationship to her. People who have/had elderly parents - this book will certainly strike a chord and many will be able to relate.
The book is not all heartbreak, there is much joy through the pain. The chapter about the locking of the door and a peephole is a funny one, which will have you laughing out loud.)
I spent the last 15 pages, literally in tears, not wanting the book to end. To the author, I just want to say - congratulations on this book. You have done your Mum, the world and yourself a wonderful service.

I was very impressed with the sensitive concern the daughter
expressed in every step of her care for her mother, in spite of
the distance in their past relationship. It is a model of excellent care
