About the Author
Jessica Levitt is into her 12th year living in New York City. Holding a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), she explored working with young children in various settings. She found her passion in a residential treatment facility for medically fragile children, and she has treasured her five years working with these specially-abled children. She has also volunteered at two therapeutic horseback riding centers in the greater New York City area, FlyingManes and Gallop in Riverdale. She was inspired to bring these two worlds together in "Sally's Magical Horse."

The Perfect Bedtime Story For All

In Sally's Magical Horse, a little girl's life on the farm is anything but typical. She's wheelchair bound and relies on a ventilator to breathe as well as a feeding tube for nourishment. Despite the fact that Sally's daily routine is unlike that of most little girls, she's presented with such ease that her situation goes from eye opening to demystifying to an inclusion of understanding. Sally's spirit shines forth and is seen as clearly as any other little girl who wants nothing more than to have a horse. With 16 pages of text by Jessica Levitt and 14 full pages of illustration by Avery Liell-Kok, Sally's Magical Horse makes for the perfect bedtime story for all children. I appreciate how people with special needs are included and people of color, too. In the end, Sally and the horse are more typical than one might expect from the title and front cover of the book. And that's a good thing. The real magic comes from the writing and beautiful presentation of this lovely, inclusive book.

Jessica Levitt has written a lovely and realistic book about the life of a child with multiple challenges. Children with disabilities and their parents will find this book inspiring and hopeful. And Sally is a charming and unforgettable girl.
