About the Author
Mary Romaniec is the mother of a child who recovered from autism by the age of four and has written numerous articles on the topic. She works as a reporter and lives in Grafton, Massachusetts with her husband and three children.

A Roadmap to Recovery

Parents of children newly diagnosed with autism are searching desperately for some kind of road map to help their children somehow recover from this devastating disorder. Mary Romaniec provides such a guide, interspersed with stories from real parents who have found ways to help their kids recover. I am one of those parents whose child was able to achieve a modicum of recovery from severe autism with many of the tactics described in Mary's book. My 14 year old recovered from massive gut overgrowth of candida and GI dysfunction, speech impairment (she lost all of her words at 18 months) perseverative behaviors (that's when your child is obsessed 24 hours a day with only one thing - in our case dinosaurs), spinning, jumping, flapping and catastrophic melt downs. My child is an All American athlete now who carries straight A's in school. There is still a struggle with social interactions but there is progress there as well.
Follow the map laid out in this book, and be very patient with yourself and your child. The gluten and casein free diet is mandatory as a foundation but it will take a year to see results. We also had success with more invasive medical therapy like the IVIG Mary's son had. The most important thing is to not give in to the fatigue of the battle. Keep it up every single day and you will get results. If you can get your kid back even 50% it's worth it to improve their life. Bio-medical intervention and therapy are the keys to success. Follow Mary's guide and look into all the sources of information and treatment she lays out.

This book is a phenomenal read - as I had the great advantage of reading it before its official release. As a mom first, Mary R. knows exactly how treatments outside mainstream thinking has proved successful. And, I can also attest that AUTISM is a very treatable condition. My son was diagnosed at a young age and it was the help of integrative physicians (MDs) and naturopaths - he has made tremendous strides. The brain /gut connection had been known for centuries. Our doctors treated "deranged minds & bound bowels" with nutrition, gut rehabilitation, detox, etcetera. Long before mainstream medicine came on board. Genetic mutations are not random 100% of the time. It's important that the 'non-believers" research gut biomes, epigenetics (how the environment influences our genes). We all have cancer genes for example. We don't all turn them on. The air we breathe, the foods we eat, the poison we inject, etc. has a huge effect on our bodies. GM foods have been studied vigorously by independent researches. We are eating glyphosate (round-up) poison ... It is destroying good gut biomes, turning off our methylation pathways (detox) reducing glutathione levels ended for detox as well. We are poisoning ourselves and it's showing -- with the incredible raise of disease, allergies etc. After researching to death and applying holistic practices with my family.. I can tell you by addressing underlying pathologies, that it significantly enhances the life.. The health & happiness of our children & ourselves.

This book gives everyone a chance to learn and be inspired by Mary's experiences.....good and bad, so we all can begin the road to recovery as a family. Every child with Autism is different and their recovery is different. This book help empower parents, friends and caretakers to work with healthcare providers who can help our children feel better and restore the health they once had. You have to think outside the box, while meeting the needs of your family. You will learn to keep the balance so the foundation stays strong during times of resistance and doubt. Home will be a place that lifts you up during a journey that takes you down many roads. The key is finding the road to recovery. Thank you Mary for sharing your story and letting others know that recovery is real and does happen.
