interesting start

Special thanks for the author for providing the book for a fair review. Shattered is a rewrite of sorts for the well known classic Cinderella. A year after Cinderella marries her prince, many would expect her to have a happy ending. Everyone also expects the evil stepmother to pay for what she did. After all, in the original story, the stepmother did not meet a happy ending.
In Shattered, the twist is that Cinderella is not the kind- hearted heroine. Somehow, her step-mother Lady Rayne induces talks of revolution everywhere she goes. The kingdom is in shambles, everything is falling apart, yet the question remains: what is going on?
While the story is sound, I find it slightly annoying that this is part of a series. The book had a lot of unnecessary words, a lot of repeating points, as if the author wants to drill it in our heads that Cinderella is evil and up to something. By half way it was a struggle to enjoy Cinderella's monologue with herself.
Lady Rayne's story fared little better, she keeps on wondering why Cinderella is toying with her, as her husband Prince Cedric wants her dead. Being exiled to a weird place, Lady Rayne never ceases to make people revolt. And her memories are jumbled and out of place, but not much light had been shed in Shattered.
Shattered might have start of promising, but the writing style had let me down, I do not mind repetition, but this time it felt like it was just a filler to make the book expand into a series. Not to mention the story did not progress very fair from Lady Rayne's sentence to me finding out what this story is all about.
Hopefully the second book has more answers and action. Although I hesitate to recommend this book, some might enjoy the new twisty rewrite.
