Do you want have a better understanding of God's desire for a strong family unity - Buy this book! Do you want to be a better Pastor, a better Youth Minister, or a better teacher - Than buy this book! It was written by an author who has been blessed by God to share God's heart, via His Word, as a relationship builder and rebuilder.

A Difference that is Felt

As a single person reading this I was able to examine the roots of how I was parented, how I entered marriage carrying deeply ingrained thought and behavior patterns, as well as belief systems, that did not serve me or my husband well. My husband brought his own problems into the mix. Our marriage lasted 22 years. Now, how I wish I could have had this book and the benefits of a therapeutic relationship even before I ever married. I really believe my life story could have been very different. Life carries a normal amount of suffering but if we are ill-equipped with poor communication skills and an inability to face and resolve conflicts, we will inevitably bring additional suffering into our lives. The Healing Touch as a book facilitates the therapeutic change process that is ours if we want to pursue it. It is an excellent tool for anyone who has discovered that relationships are challenging at best. While focusing mostly on the marriage relationship, the basics of relating well are for anyone who has discovered that working with others to build relationship is not at all easy.
Dave Bennett provides the biblical foundation for the key tools he provides his clients in counseling. In the therapeutic relationship these tools are revealed only as the client is ready for them. Here in his book he presents them simply and logically in a readable style with his personal touch. These tools work across all relational difficulties. The emphasis is different from other similar works I have examined. In reading The Healing Touch I have found answers that are real and have worked out for me in the everyday give and take of relating to others, within my family and extended family, as well as relating at the professional level.
Real life examples of both simple and complicated relational challenges are presented from his work with clients with Dr. Bennett's uniquely adept and compassionate analysis. Most of us need quite a lot of support to enter a serious change process and carry it through for lasting change. The Healing Touch provides sound encouragement and clear direction for navigating the difficult road to satisfying and productive relationships. This work can be read easily and rapidly and then again, it is worth taking the time to read it carefully and do the work of applying the principles presented.

A look inside your psyche

Bennett's book is a helpful tool to open a door into your own psychological make-up, molded since your day of birth by often long-forgotten or covered-up experiences within the family matrix. Bennett employs examples gleaned from his years of counseling clients as well as from his own personal family interactions to help the reader recognize both minor and major triggers that shape our personality. His simple presentation makes it easy to follow and will help any reader to quickly recognize the those events in early life that give rise to much of our adult behavior in how we react to the people around us, both in close relationship and our interaction with the world we must navigate daily. Moreover, Bennett presents helpful solutions based on biblical principles that aid us in overcoming self-destructive reactions on our part, and a road map to better understanding of others, which, if followed, will create the space for more intimate, joyful and satisfying personal relationships as well as more amiable relationships with bosses, co-workers, friends and acquaintances. I would recommend this book to anyone who is puzzled by their own reactive responses when caught in certain situations, or who is perplexed by the unpleasant reactions of others to seemingly minor and often innocent events. The theme this book speaks to me is that by knowing yourself and knowing the real enemy, your eyes will be able to see clearly the path that leads to peace.
