Gunmen and killers are in demand by both sides, with premiums paid for greater lethality. Using their direct contact telepathic ability, Ethan and his unusual sister Kit, chose a side. They’ll face a hundred hired guns, the outcome deciding who will control the future of Chisholm. Powerful men are determined to block reforms by driving off or killing those opposed to the status quo, and adamant reformers will meet violence with violence.
Hired by one side in the conflict, an unexpected betrayal strikes down Ethan, and he vanishes. Kit goes on a rampage, terrorizing anyone with knowledge, to discover what happened to him, and mangled bodies accumulate as she searches for her brother. Knowing telepathically exactly what evil an individual has committed isn’t admissible in courts there, or heeded by corrupt sheriffs. However, possessing the truth is ample motivation for ignoring the law to Kit, and she summons help. In a final bloody confrontation, with deaths on both sides, a solution that only those from Kobani could produce is achieved.

Koban Universe #2

This spin-off story in the Koban Universe involves Ethan and his adopted (ripper) sister Kit as they visit a Wild West planet named Chisholm to drum up business for their new trouble-shooting firm, Have Genes, Will Travel. They and their young friends on Koban see the potential in using their Kobani skills as a way to finance sightseeing and adventures in a post-Krall galaxy. However things don't go quite as planned in the local range war and they end up needing to be rescued on their first mission. Every new business plan needs a little fine tuning in the beginning.
I really enjoy this series and can't wait for the next book by Bennett, either in the main series or this spin-off story from Koban: A Federation Forged in Fire. As usual, the blurb gives too much of the story away.

Fun Read!

I have always enjoyed every book from this author. This was another great book in a series of well written books.
I always find myself getting lost in this universe created by the author. An small escape from the reality of today's world when I let the book absorb me into this world of gene modified humans. Super humans.
Fun western type story with lots of action, turns and twists. Think Kit stole the show in this one. I am glad the Rippers played a major role in this book.
Lets be happy for "hard heads"! Read the book to find out why. Editing was solid.
Gets my recommendation to read. All the Koban books get that recommendation. Look forward to the next one. Wonder where the Genes will travel next.

Another excelent addition to the Kobani universe

Came across the Koban books last February and Stephen W Bennett quickly became one of my favorite authors. I have since purchased every book released and have yet to be disappointed.
While KU:1 was a collection of four short stories KU:2 is all one story.
I enjoyed this book (though slightly less than I expected).
Pros: Good story. At one point a 'norm' gets the best of a Kobani proving they are not infallible super-beings. The rippers get more page time as the dominant point of view further cementing their full sentience in the readers mind. Plenty of action. Though little of it is in evidence local fauna is introduced (I like to see local plant and wildlife it make the planets less generic feeling). The younger generation gets to encounter more of the galaxy out of their own space and grow as people due to it.
Cons: The main norm antagonists seem a little one dimensional while the secondaries get more page time and have much more depth. Not sure if this was fixed in a revision but at one point the foreshadowing was WAY to strong.
The first revision that was released had a few editing errors but Stephen is always quick to fix anything you report to him.
