WOW! Just wow!
By Greetje
This review, since it is book 5, you either have already read the first four books and know a bit about the characters, or maybe, you are looking at the reviews of the books in this series to see if you may like it.
I have written this right after I read the book:
WOW!
Just wow!
This is the best book I have read.
I am trying to find the words for it, but it is kind of hard...
I absolutely LOVE the fact this book is about Alice and also about Jack.
I love the time travelling, the characters of Mr Tick and Mrs Tock.
Here are a few very good reasons why you should read this book:
In this book Alive travels through time with the help of Mr Tick and Mrs Tock, who are 'oh so bored' as they have all the time in the world.. Mr Tick and Mrs Tock are incredibly wicked and Alice helps them in breaking their boredom. Mr and Mrs Tick-Tock control time. They are up for some amusement and let Alice travel through time.
We get a glimpse of a possible future and we get to see what happened in the past and what happened when Alice killed her classmates in the "schoolbus-incident-accident".
It is an adventure where you will get to meet a different side of Alice, her evil side. What happened before the accident? Was she a different person then? What caused her to choose walking on the dark tiles? Will she be able to still change into the hero or is it too easy to just give in to being evil?
It is an adventure that involves Jack. Charming Jack. I secretly have a small crush on him... We get to experience a small piece of time, back when Jack and Alice were dating. But in this book we get to see him in a slightly different light as well. And there seems to be another boy/man making an appearance in Alice's life?
I keep getting surprised by the Queen of hearts. She seems so thick at times, but then so incredibly smart at other times, it is hard to keep track or make up my mind about it.
And then last but not least, we get to meet a new character. Mr Jay, who I am very curious about. He seems to be a key figure, a very important person, but he hasnt shown his face until this book. He is trying to get something from Alice, is it the keys? Is it her dark side? Is it just a "possibility"? Who knows?
I can say that this series is by far the best series I have read in my life. I devour books whenever I have time and I am always up for trying something new and by new/unknown authors. I started reading the prequels Cameron Jace wrote after they showed up in my recommended list on amazon and I have been hooked eversince,
Cameron is a very versatile writer, who is taking fantasy to a whole new level. The erm, 'personality' of his books is based on the same mix, fairy tales/characters mixed with real life events, places and happenings in history and a little dash of fantasy/insanity in the best possible way. He is not afraid to write about (or as) evil characters and it just opens a whole new world.
The reason why I am quite sure you will love his books is because he keeps doing this thing. It's as if he realises very well, what type of story it has to be to tell the story best. So the five books in this series so far all are very different, because they all had a different story to tell. The same goes for the other books. The prequels is the best way to see it. They are all diaries written from the point of view of the fairytale character who is telling the story. All the characters are different, so all the stories are different, all fitting the characters characteristics.
The fact that they are all different stories makes it that different kind of readers all can have their own favourite book in this series and still love the complete story as a whole.
I think it's genius!

Wow....but a little sad
By Amazon Customer
I don't want to give anything away, but in this book it felt like Alice grew up. Obviously, she wasn't an innocent child, but there was an innocent charm to her, like "I'm probably insane but I'm gonna do my best to do right." In this book, Alice learns more about herself and it feels like by following her heart, she ends up losing a piece of it. Also, In discovering more about herself, she loses a part of herself. All I can say is I do hope as the story continues Alice Wonder holds on to her Wonder. I hate the stories that make a reader really attach to a character but then at the conclusion there's s depressing revelation or conclusion like "old warriors don't die, they merely fade away" bs. Please don't go that route :( I love seeing a character triumph not just merely survive a lesser but wiser person than where they started. Please don't Mockingjay us!

Genius and Insanity
By T. Frazier
If you are an Insanity fan like myself you are sure to love this new book. Wonder has less facts this time around but really delves into the characters. We find out some interesting new tidbits and get a better look into who Alice is. I am not the type of reviewer who will summarize the plot for you because I feel it gives away to much of the joy of discovery. I will tell you that the book is amazingly wonderful and when you finish you will be in awe of Jace's written genius. Their is a fine line between genius and insanity and Jace knows how to walk it. You won't be disappointed.
