A Great Read About an Amazing Journey

I consider this book to be a must-read. If you are experiencing a tragedy, care about someone who is experiencing grief, or just struggling to find God's voice as you deal with daily life, this is the perfect book to read.
Truth be told, I usually avoid reading books about people's tragedies because, well, they make me sad. But this is NOT a sad book! Yes, there is heart break, and Alicia describes the worst time of her life in intimate detail, but it is essentially a book about hope. She uses the Word of God and her own journey of healing as a kind-of instructional manual for how we can all listen better to the counsel of the Holy Spirit, no matter what we are going through.
Here are some of the things I liked best about the book:
* It's a well-written book and easy to read.
* The book is never preachy -- she is very honest about her weaknesses and failures of faith.
* She opens the window on her experiences and describes every aspect in detail. There is no doubt that this is a REAL family, imperfections included.
* The book provides honest insight on what families go through during the grief of an unexpected loss.
* I closed the book with a smile on my face and an incredible feeling of peace and joy.
I felt blessed by reading this book!

Encouraging Book

Absolutely LOVED this book. It's about how the author dealt with the tragedy of the death of her 16 year old daughter but the principals can apply to anyone going through any difficulty. She shows over and over very specifically how God speaks through his word to help us through life. One of my favorite parts of the book is the description of heaven. It is obvious that she did a lot of research and was very eye opening. I bought 7 for gifts and will need more soon!

Wonderful Counselor, written by Alicia Crawley, is an incredible book. I know Alicia personally and I have witnessed her journey through grief. The insights that she shares are real. This book is grounded in scripture and is a beautiful depiction of the Lord's work in our lives through our times of grief. I am a professional counselor who specializes in helping people through grief. Grief is such an intense time of questioning and confusion about God and His goodness. Immersing yourself in a book full of biblical truth is a very healthy way to address those questions. Alicia is real, genuine and unafraid to share her struggles and God's triumphs.
I have recommended this book to many clients and friends and I have found that the principles shared in Alicia's writing are universal. One of the most exciting things that I experienced when reading Wonderful Counselor was that I was able to recognize the Holy Spirit. The way He worked in her life was characteristic of the way He worked in mine when I was grieving 11 years ago. I was excited to see that the traits that I experienced of the Lord's personality were the same ones that Alicia experienced. And I found that the truth of 1 Corinthians 12:13 was true "For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body--whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink."
